NEW PHENOLIC ANTIOXIDANTS BASED ON 3,5-DI--BUTYL-4-HYDROXYBENZYL ALCOHOL AND DIBASIC CARBOXYLIC ACIDS FOR USE IN LUBRICATING OILS

Abstract
The effect of phenolic antioxidants of various structures on the thermo-oxidative stability of vacuum oil BM-1 was studied. Phenolic antioxidants (esters of malonic, glutaric and adipic acids and 3,5-di--butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol) were synthesized and the possibility of their use as antioxidants for lubricating oils was evaluated. It is shown that 3,5-di--butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, bis(3,5-di--butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) malonate, bis(3,5-di--butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) glutarate, bis(3,5-di--butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) adipinate are characterized by higher antioxidant activity compared to samples of commercial antioxidants Agidol-2, Agidol-23 and Synox-1010.
